Sculptra for Facial Volume Loss Near Ottawa

Facial aging is not only about wrinkles. Changes in collagen, facial fat and underlying support can gradually affect the cheeks, temples and overall facial contour.

At Arnprior Med Spa, Sculptra is our primary injectable treatment for broader, gradual volume restoration. Rather than creating an immediate filled appearance, it works over time by stimulating your skin’s own collagen production.

Hyaluronic-acid dermal filler may still be recommended selectively when a specific area would benefit from more immediate structure or definition. Your treatment plan is based on your facial anatomy, goals, medical history and the type of change being addressed.

Is It Volume Loss, Skin Laxity or a Change in Skin Quality?

These concerns can occur together, but they are not treated in the same way. Facial volume loss can contribute to flattening through the cheeks, hollowing and changes in facial contour. Sculptra or carefully selected dermal filler may be considered.

Reduced firmness or skin laxity affects how supported the skin appears. Collagen-remodelling treatments such as RF microneedling or Fotona 4D may be more appropriate. Fine lines, sun damage and rough texture affect the skin’s surface. These concerns are generally better treated with skincare or laser resurfacing.

Your consultation helps determine which changes are actually present so that you are not spending money treating the wrong concern.

What causes facial volume loss?

Facial aging involves more than a reduction in collagen. Over time, changes can occur in the skin, facial fat compartments and underlying bone structure. Together, these changes may affect facial contours and contribute to flattening through the cheeks, temple hollowing and deeper folds.

Facial volume changes may also become more noticeable following significant weight loss. However, not every change that looks like volume loss should be treated with an injectable. Reduced skin firmness and changes in surface texture may require an entirely different approach.

That is why we begin with an assessment rather than asking you to choose a product yourself.

Understanding Your Options

Sculptra vs. HA Dermal Filler

Both treatments can address the visible effects of facial volume loss, but they work differently. The right choice depends on the type of support your face needs and how you would like your results to develop.

Our Primary Approach

Sculptra

A gradual treatment designed to stimulate collagen and provide broader facial support over time.

  • Primary role Gradual collagen stimulation and broader support
  • Results Develop progressively rather than appearing immediately
  • Planning Usually approached as an individualized treatment series
  • May suit Broader age-related changes in facial volume and support
Selective Treatment

HA Dermal Filler

A hyaluronic-acid injectable used selectively when a specific area would benefit from more immediate structure or contour.

  • Primary role Targeted structural support or contour
  • Results Usually visible immediately, with settling afterward
  • Planning Based on the specific area and amount of correction required
  • May suit Selected areas requiring precise, localized support

Our Approach to Facial Volume Loss

Sculptra: Gradual Collagen Support

Sculptra is our primary injectable treatment for broader, age-related changes in facial volume and support.

It contains poly-L-lactic acid, or PLLA, and works by stimulating collagen production within the treated tissue. The initial fullness from the treatment fluid settles, and changes then develop progressively as the collagen response occurs.

Sculptra is not intended to create an immediately “filled” appearance. It is generally planned as a treatment series, with the number of sessions and amount of product determined by individual anatomy, treatment goals and clinical assessment.

The objective is not to change the shape of your face. It is to support a gradual, balanced result that continues to look like you.

Selective Hyaluronic-Acid Dermal Filler

HA dermal filler remains an option when a specific area would benefit from more immediate or localized support.

Rather than using filler throughout the face by default, we use it selectively and conservatively. In some cases, Sculptra may be the primary treatment with a smaller amount of HA filler considered for an area requiring more precise correction.

Neither treatment is automatically appropriate for every client. Your consultation determines whether Sculptra, HA filler, a collagen-remodelling treatment or no injectable treatment is the most appropriate next step.

Natural-Looking Injectable Planning Starts With Restraint

The goal of injectable treatment should not be to make every face look fuller.

We assess where support has changed, where adding volume may be unnecessary and whether another treatment would better address the concern. Sculptra, hyaluronic acid filler, skin tightening and laser resurfacing each perform different roles.

Our responsibility is to explain those differences clearly and recommend only what is appropriate for your anatomy and goals.

A More Thoughtful Approach to Facial Volume Loss

You do not need to decide between Sculptra, dermal filler or skin tightening before your appointment.
Your consultation is designed to identify what has changed, what can realistically be improved and which treatment—if any—makes sense for you. You will receive a clear recommendation based on your facial anatomy, medical history, goals and preferred treatment timeline.

Arnprior Med Spa provides consultation-led injectable treatments for clients from Arnprior, Renfrew, Kanata, Ottawa and communities throughout the Ottawa Valley.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sculptra and Facial
Volume Loss

Facial volume loss refers to changes in the skin, facial fat compartments and underlying structural support that can alter facial contours over time. It may appear as flatter cheeks, temple hollowing, deeper folds or a less supported facial appearance.

Volume loss and reduced skin firmness can look similar and frequently occur together. Volume loss affects facial contours and support, while skin laxity affects how firmly the skin sits over those structures. An in-person assessment helps determine which change is contributing most.

Sculptra is an injectable biostimulator containing poly-L-lactic acid, commonly abbreviated as PLLA. It is used to stimulate collagen and gradually improve the appearance of selected facial depressions and volume-related changes.

After Sculptra is placed in the appropriate tissue, the PLLA particles stimulate a gradual collagen response. The treatment fluid itself settles, while the longer-term change develops progressively as the tissue responds.

Sculptra is often grouped within injectable treatments, but it does not work like a traditional hyaluronic-acid filler.

HA filler provides more immediate physical volume. Sculptra primarily works through gradual collagen stimulation.

Sculptra is generally used when broader, gradual collagen support is desired. HA dermal filler may be selected for more immediate and localized structure or contour. In some treatment plans, the two may be used for different purposes.

Neither is universally better. They address different clinical needs. The appropriate choice depends on the type and location of the volume change, desired timeline, previous treatments and individual anatomy.

Sculptra results develop gradually. Some clients begin noticing changes within the first several weeks, but collagen remodelling continues over the following months. Individual responses and timelines vary.

Sculptra is commonly planned as a series rather than a single treatment. The number of sessions and amount of product required vary according to anatomy, degree of correction and treatment goals. Your plan is established after consultation and adjusted according to response.

Published manufacturer information reports that results may last up to approximately two years in some patients. This is not guaranteed; longevity varies according to the treatment plan, individual biology and other factors.

Sculptra may be considered for selected facial areas where broader collagen support is appropriate. Suitability varies by anatomy and approved product use. Specific treatment areas are determined during your medical assessment.

Sculptra is not used like a traditional lip filler, and it is not our direct treatment for the delicate under-eye area. Concerns involving the lips or under-eyes require a separate assessment because anatomy, product selection and risk considerations are different.

Sculptra may be considered when significant weight loss has contributed to broader facial volume changes. However, skin laxity and volume loss must be assessed separately because Sculptra does not tighten excess skin in the same way as a collagen-remodelling device or surgical procedure.

Sculptra is not a surgical lifting procedure and does not directly remove jowls. In selected clients, improving broader facial support may soften some contributing changes. Skin laxity, tissue descent and anatomy may require a different or combined approach.

Sculptra may be incorporated into a broader plan that includes neuromodulators, selective HA filler, skincare, laser resurfacing or collagen-remodelling treatments. These treatments address different concerns and must be appropriately timed and planned.

Temporary swelling, tenderness, redness or bruising can occur after injectable treatment. You will receive individualized instructions regarding massage, skincare, exercise and other post-treatment considerations. Contact the clinic if you experience symptoms that concern you.

Possible risks include bruising, swelling, tenderness, asymmetry, infection and the development of palpable or visible bumps or nodules. Injectable procedures also carry uncommon but potentially serious vascular risks. These risks, contraindications and alternatives are reviewed during the medical consent process.

Sculptra may not be appropriate for people with certain allergies, active infection or inflammation in the treatment area, particular scarring histories, medical conditions or other contraindications. Treatment is only considered after a complete medical assessment.

Laser resurfacing and RF or laser-based collagen remodelling can improve skin texture, firmness and surface quality, but they do not directly replace lost facial volume. If you prefer not to have injectables, we can explain what non-injectable treatments can realistically improve—and what they cannot.

At Arnprior Med Spa, Sculptra is $1,200 for two vials.

Sculptra is commonly planned as a series, but the number of treatment sessions and total number of vials required are not the same for everyone. Your recommendation will depend on your facial anatomy, the degree of volume change and your treatment goals.

During your consultation, we will explain the recommended plan and estimated total investment before you decide whether to proceed.
