Wrinkle Treatments Near Ottawa

Fine lines and deeper wrinkles do not all form for the same reason—and they should not all receive the same treatment.

Expression, collagen changes, sun damage, skin texture, reduced firmness and facial volume loss can each contribute differently. At Arnprior Med Spa, we assess what is causing the concern before recommending RF microneedling, laser resurfacing, Fotona 4D, Botox or Dysport, Sculptra or carefully selected dermal filler.

What Type of Wrinkle Are You Seeing?

Wrinkles can look similar on the surface while developing for very different reasons. Identifying the type of wrinkle helps determine which treatment is most likely to be useful.

Dynamic Expression Lines

These lines appear or deepen when facial muscles move. Common examples include forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet.

Often addressed with: Botox or Dysport

Fine Textural Lines

These are superficial lines associated with changes in skin texture, collagen, cumulative sun exposure and skin quality. They may be especially noticeable around the eyes and mouth.

Often addressed with: Laser resurfacing, medical-grade skincare or RF microneedling

Deeper Etched Wrinkles

These lines remain visible when the face is at rest. They may reflect years of repeated movement combined with collagen loss, sun damage and changes in skin thickness.

Often addressed with: More intensive laser resurfacing, sometimes combined with neuromodulator treatment when muscle movement continues to deepen the area

Wrinkles Influenced by Volume Loss

Some folds and facial shadows become more noticeable as facial support and volume distribution change. Treating the skin surface alone may not adequately address this type of concern.

Often addressed with: Sculptra or selective HA dermal filler after facial assessment

One Wrinkle Treatment Cannot Do Every Job

Botox and Dysport address muscle movement. Laser resurfacing improves surface texture and etched lines. RF microneedling and Fotona 4D support collagen remodelling and firmness. Sculptra and selective HA filler address changes related to facial volume and support.

These treatments are not interchangeable.

Our role is to identify which layer of facial aging is contributing to the concern and build the treatment plan around that—not simply recommend the strongest procedure or the newest device.

Treatment Options for Different Types of Wrinkles

The most appropriate treatment depends on what is contributing to the wrinkle. We consider skin texture, collagen loss, facial movement, firmness, sun damage and volume before recommending a treatment pathway.

Skin-First Treatments for Wrinkles

When wrinkles are influenced by changes in texture, collagen or firmness, we may begin with RF microneedling or laser resurfacing. These treatments work differently and are selected according to the layer of skin being addressed, the depth of the concern, your skin type and your preferred recovery time.

Best for: Fine lines, crepey texture and reduced firmness

RF Microneedling

  • Genius RF microneedling delivers controlled radiofrequency energy beneath the skin’s surface to support collagen remodelling. It may be considered when wrinkles occur alongside enlarged pores, acne scarring or reduced skin firmness.
  • Typical recovery: Approximately 1–3 days of redness or swelling

Best for: Fine-to-moderate wrinkles, uneven texture and sun-damaged skin

Non-Ablative Laser Resurfacing

  • LaseMD Ultra and Mosaic 3D provide different levels of non-ablative fractional resurfacing. Ultra focuses more superficially on tone and early textural changes, while Mosaic 3D reaches more deeply to address texture, pores and etched lines.

  • Typical recovery: Varies by treatment intensity; commonly 3–7 days of redness, dryness or flaking

Best for: Deeper etched wrinkles and more advanced sun damage

Advanced Laser Resurfacing

  • Er:YAG and fractional CO₂ resurfacing may be considered when greater surface renewal is appropriate. Treatment depth and recovery are customized according to the condition of your skin, treatment goals, medical history and pigmentation risk.
  • Typical recovery: Varies considerably by treatment depth; a personalized estimate is provided during consultation

Botox and Dysport for Expression Lines

Best for Wrinkles Caused by Facial Movement

Botox and Dysport are neuromodulators that temporarily reduce selected muscle movement. They are commonly used for expression-related lines around the forehead, between the eyebrows and beside the eyes.

Treatment is planned conservatively according to your anatomy, natural facial movement and desired result. The goal is to soften the movement contributing to the lines while maintaining a natural-looking appearance.

Botox and Dysport do not resurface sun-damaged skin, improve skin texture or replace facial volume. When more than one factor is contributing to your wrinkles, they may form one part of a broader treatment plan.

When Wrinkles Are Influenced by Volume Loss

Sculptra for Collagen and Volume-Related Changes

Sculptra is an injectable biostimulator that supports gradual collagen production. It may help soften selected cheek creases, nasolabial folds and lower-face folds when declining facial support is contributing to their appearance.

Sculptra is not used to fill individual surface wrinkles directly. It also does not replace Botox or Dysport for expression lines or laser resurfacing for fine, etched wrinkles.

Results: Develop gradually over several months

Starting investment: A two-vial Sculptra treatment is $1,200. The total investment varies if additional vials or treatment sessions are recommended.

For Collagen and Volume-Related Changes

Sculptra

  • Broader collagen loss
  • Facial volume changes and folds influenced by reduced structural support

Best for: Immediate, localized support or contour

When Might HA Dermal Filler Be Considered?

  • Hyaluronic-acid dermal filler may be considered when a specific area requires more immediate structure or volume.
  • Unlike Sculptra, which supports gradual collagen production across a broader area, HA filler provides localized correction.
  • We do not automatically fill every line or fold. Filler is recommended selectively after assessing facial anatomy, movement, skin quality and structural support.

Your Personalized Wrinkle Treatment Plan

Your plan may involve one treatment or a carefully timed combination. RF microneedling may support deeper collagen remodelling, resurfacing may address etched lines and sun damage, Botox or Dysport may reduce repeated movement, and Sculptra or selective HA filler may address volume-related changes.

We begin with an assessment so that you are not spending money on treatments that do not address the actual cause of your concern.

Frequently Asked Questions About Wrinkle Treatments

There is no single treatment that is most effective for every wrinkle. Botox and Dysport address wrinkles caused by muscle movement. Laser resurfacing addresses fine textural lines, sun damage and selected etched wrinkles. RF microneedling supports deeper collagen remodelling and firmness. Sculptra and selective dermal filler may be considered when facial volume and structural support are contributing to the concern.

Expression lines become more noticeable when facial muscles move. Static or etched wrinkles remain visible when the face is resting. Other lines and folds may be influenced by sun damage, reduced skin firmness or changing facial volume. An in-person assessment helps determine which factors are contributing.

Neither treatment is universally better. RF microneedling delivers radiofrequency energy beneath the skin’s surface and may be considered when wrinkles occur alongside reduced firmness, enlarged pores or acne scarring. Laser resurfacing focuses more directly on surface texture, sun damage and etched lines. Some treatment plans may incorporate both at different stages.

The most appropriate laser depends on the depth of the wrinkles, skin type, pigmentation risk, treatment goals and acceptable recovery time. LaseMD Ultra may be considered for earlier surface changes, Mosaic 3D for deeper non-ablative fractional resurfacing, and Er:YAG or fractional CO₂ for more intensive surface renewal.

Fractional CO₂ can provide more intensive resurfacing than lighter non-ablative treatments, but the strongest procedure is not automatically the best choice. More intensive treatment generally involves greater recovery and requires careful assessment, preparation and aftercare.

Botox and Dysport reduce selected muscle movement and are most appropriate for expression-related lines. Laser resurfacing creates controlled treatment zones in the skin to improve selected textural changes and etched wrinkles. One does not replace the other because they address different causes.

They may be incorporated into the same overall treatment plan when both muscle movement and skin texture contribute to the concern. Treatment timing is determined individually so that the skin can recover appropriately between procedures.

Yes, selected clients may benefit from a staged combination. For example, RF microneedling may address deeper collagen remodelling, resurfacing may improve surface texture, Botox or Dysport may reduce repeated movement, and Sculptra or HA filler may address selected volume-related changes. Not every client requires every treatment.

The correct treatment depends on whether the concern is caused by fine surface lines, crepey texture, reduced firmness, pigmentation, visible vessels, hollowing or a combination of factors. Selected clients may benefit from carefully planned CO₂ or Er:YAG resurfacing, RF microneedling, Fotona SmoothEye or another skin-focused treatment. Under-eye hollowing must be assessed separately because resurfacing does not replace lost volume.

Lines around the mouth may be influenced by repeated movement, sun damage, collagen loss and changing facial support. Depending on the cause, treatment may include laser resurfacing, RF microneedling, skincare or carefully selected injectable treatment. Filling every individual line is not always the most natural or appropriate approach.

Sculptra may help soften selected folds and creases when declining collagen and facial support contribute to their appearance. It does not directly fill fine surface wrinkles and is not a substitute for Botox or Dysport for expression lines or laser resurfacing for etched texture.

Sculptra stimulates a gradual collagen response and is generally considered for broader facial support. Hyaluronic-acid filler provides more immediate, localized structure or contour. They serve different purposes and may sometimes be used within the same overall plan.

Yes. Natural-looking treatment begins with identifying the cause of the concern and using an appropriate amount of treatment. Our approach is to preserve individual expression and facial character rather than attempting to remove every visible line.

Recovery varies considerably. Botox and Dysport commonly involve little interruption to regular activities, although temporary redness, swelling or bruising can occur. RF microneedling and non-ablative resurfacing may cause several days of redness, dryness or swelling. More intensive Er:YAG or fractional CO₂ resurfacing generally requires a longer recovery period. You will receive a more specific estimate after assessment.

The number of treatments depends on the wrinkle type, selected technology, treatment intensity and desired degree of improvement. Some injectable treatments may be performed in a single appointment and maintained over time, while RF microneedling, non-ablative resurfacing and Sculptra are commonly planned as a series.

Preparation depends on the treatment and your skin. Medical-grade skincare, sun protection or temporary changes to certain products may be recommended before resurfacing. More intensive procedures generally require more structured preparation. Individual instructions are provided before treatment.

No treatment permanently stops facial movement, sun exposure or the natural changes that occur over time. The duration of improvement varies by treatment and individual response. Skincare, sun protection and appropriately timed maintenance can help support results.

Treatment selection and settings must account for skin tone, pigmentation history and the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation changes. Some technologies may be more appropriate than others. An assessment is required before recommending laser or energy-based treatment.

Cost depends on whether your plan includes RF microneedling, laser resurfacing, Botox or Dysport, Sculptra, dermal filler or a combination. A two-vial Sculptra treatment at Arnprior Med Spa is $1,200. If additional vials or sessions are recommended, the total investment will be reviewed with you before treatment. Pricing for other treatments is explained during consultation so that you understand the expected investment before proceeding.

Start with a skin and facial-aging consultation if you are unsure whether your concern is primarily related to movement, texture, firmness or volume. This allows us to recommend an appropriate pathway instead of asking you to select a device or injectable treatment on your own.

Start With the Cause of the Wrinkle—not a Device

You do not need to decide between RF microneedling, laser resurfacing, Botox, Sculptra or dermal filler before booking.

Your consultation is designed to identify what is contributing to the concern, explain which options are most appropriate and build a clear prepare–treat–reassess–maintain pathway around your skin, goals and preferred recovery time.
