HydraFacial Near Ottawa

Cleanse. Exfoliate. Extract. Hydrate.

HydraFacial is a non-invasive skin treatment that combines controlled exfoliation, gentle suction-based extraction and hydration within one treatment.

At Arnprior Med Spa, we use HydraFacial when the goal is to improve congestion, dullness, dehydration and overall skin maintenance—not as a substitute for corrective laser resurfacing when deeper pigment, scarring or textural change needs to be addressed.

Sometimes your skin needs correction. Sometimes it simply needs a better reset. Knowing the difference matters.

What Is a HydraFacial?

More than a traditional facial.

HydraFacial is a technology-assisted hydradermabrasion treatment that uses patented Vortex-Fusion technology and specialized HydroPeel® tips to cleanse, exfoliate and extract debris while delivering hydrating solutions to the skin.

Unlike a traditional facial that relies primarily on manually applied skincare and extractions, HydraFacial uses controlled fluid delivery and suction throughout the treatment.

The result is a treatment that sits somewhere between a traditional facial and more corrective procedures such as chemical peels, microneedling or laser resurfacing.

HydraFacial improves the environment at the surface of the skin. It does not replace treatments designed to create deeper dermal remodelling or remove significant photodamage.

best for:

  • Congestion
  • Dullness
  • Acne
  • Dehydration
  • Skin maintenance
  • Pre + post lasers
  • Pore congestion
  • Rough skin texture

Downtime: Mild pinkness to skin afterwards, fades within 24 hours.

How HydraFacial Works

HydraFacial combines controlled exfoliation, fluid delivery, suction-based extraction and hydration in one treatment. Each stage has a different role in preparing, clearing and replenishing the surface of the skin.

01
Prepare

Cleanse + Exfoliate

The first stage removes surface buildup and loosened dead skin cells while beginning controlled exfoliation. Fluid is delivered throughout the process rather than relying on dry mechanical abrasion alone.

→
02
Resurface

Loosen Surface Buildup

Exfoliating solutions help loosen accumulated surface cells and congestion. Treatment intensity can be adjusted according to skin tolerance and the goals of the session.

→
03
Clear

Extract

Controlled suction works through the HydraFacial tip to help lift loosened sebum, debris and congestion from pores without relying solely on aggressive manual extraction.

→
04
Replenish

Hydrate + Infuse

The final stage delivers hydrating and antioxidant-containing solutions to freshly exfoliated skin. Targeted boosters may also be incorporated depending on the treatment selected.

Why It Feels Different

HydraFacial combines exfoliation, extraction and hydration rather than treating each step as a separate procedure. It is designed primarily for surface-level skin maintenance—not deeper dermal remodelling.

Why clients choose Arnprior Med Spa for their HydraFacial Treatments

We Don’t Treat Every Concern With the Same Facial

Congestion, pigmentation, redness, acne scarring and photodamage are biologically different concerns. HydraFacial is recommended when its mechanism actually matches the treatment goal.

HydraFacial Is Part of a Larger Skin Toolkit

Because the clinic also offers vascular, pigment and fractional resurfacing technologies, we can tell you when a facial is appropriate—and when your concern requires something different.

Skin Health Comes Before Trends

Treatments are selected according to your skin, current routine, treatment history and goals rather than simply because a procedure is popular.

We Can Follow the Skin Over Time

Standardized photography and VISIA Skin Analysis can be incorporated into broader skin-treatment planning when objective monitoring is useful.

Before and after

How to prepare, and what to do afterwards

HydraFacial is a surface treatment with very little recovery. A few things still help it work better.

Before your appointment

Preparing your skin

  • Come with clean skin where you can, and skip heavy makeup on the day.
  • Tell us what you are using. Retinoids, exfoliating acids and any recent treatments all matter, and we will confirm what to pause and for how long when you book.
  • Let us know about cold sores, an active breakout or recent sun exposure so we can adjust the treatment.
  • If the skin is broken, sunburned or actively infected in the area, we will rebook you rather than treat.
After your treatment

The next few days

  • Most people go straight back to their day.
  • Mild pinkness to the skin can last up to 24 hours.
  • Wear SPF daily. Freshly exfoliated skin is more sensitive to sun.
  • Hold active products until we tell you it is safe to restart. You will get that timing before you leave.
  • If anything feels unexpected, call the clinic.

Frequently Asked Questions

These treatments do very different jobs.

HydraFacial may make sense for:

Congestion · blackheads · dehydration · dullness · superficial skin maintenance.

Laser treatment may make more sense for:

Pigmentation · sun damage · vascular redness · acne scarring · deeper texture · wrinkles · fractional collagen remodelling.

For example, we may consider LaseMD Ultra for pigmentation and photodamage, Mosaic 3D for textural remodelling, Derma V for vascular redness, or Er:YAG/CO₂ when ablative resurfacing is appropriate.

A HydraFacial does not create the same tissue response as fractional or ablative laser resurfacing.

There is clinical research on hydradermabrasion and HydraFacial, but the evidence base is smaller than the research supporting many established laser and dermatologic treatments.

One randomized study involving 20 women compared six hydradermabrasion treatments with topical antioxidant serum application alone. The hydradermabrasion group showed improvements in several clinical and histologic measures, including epidermal and papillary dermal changes, while the serum-only group did not show comparable changes.

A separate small study of 20 adults with mild-to-moderate acne reported improvement following a six-treatment HydraFacial Clarifying series, although it was open-label and had industry involvement.

More recent imaging research has also examined microscopic skin changes after hydradermabrasion, while explicitly acknowledging that clinical studies validating the procedure remain relatively scarce.

HydraFacial has a reasonable role in cleansing, superficial exfoliation, hydration, congestion management and routine skin maintenance. We don’t present it as a replacement for medical acne therapy, vascular laser, pigment-specific treatment or fractional resurfacing.

Those are two different questions.

For active acne, HydraFacial may be incorporated as an adjunctive treatment for selected clients, particularly when congestion and clogged pores are part of the problem. A small study involving 20 adults with mild-to-moderate acne reported improvement following a six-treatment HydraFacial Clarifying series. However, the study was small, open-label and included an author employed by The HydraFacial Company, so the findings should be interpreted accordingly.

For true acne scars, HydraFacial is not a substitute for treatments designed to remodel structurally altered skin. Depressed or textural acne scars may require technologies such as fractional laser resurfacing or RF microneedling depending on the type and depth of scarring.

Active acne and acne scarring require different treatment strategies.

HydraFacial is useful, but it isn’t designed to correct every skin concern.

We would not rely on HydraFacial alone to significantly treat:

True depressed acne scars
These involve structural changes within the skin and may require fractional laser, RF microneedling or another scar-specific strategy.

Visible blood vessels or persistent vascular redness
HydraFacial doesn’t selectively target blood vessels. A vascular laser such as Derma V performs a different job.

Significant sun damage or established pigmentation
Surface exfoliation may temporarily improve brightness, but deeper or persistent pigment may require a pigment-specific treatment strategy.

Deep wrinkles or advanced textural change
HydraFacial does not produce the same tissue-remodelling response as fractional or ablative resurfacing.

Significant skin laxity
It should not be presented as a lifting or tightening treatment.

Melasma as a stand-alone treatment
Melasma is a chronic pigment disorder requiring a broader management strategy rather than simply repeated exfoliation.

Medical skin disease requiring diagnosis or prescription treatment
A facial should never replace appropriate medical assessment.

The best treatment isn’t necessarily the strongest treatment—or the newest one. It is the treatment whose mechanism actually matches the problem we are trying to improve.

Yes, they can be incorporated into the same broader skin-maintenance plan because they perform very different roles.

HydraFacial focuses primarily on cleansing, exfoliation, extraction and hydration.

Healite II is an LED photobiomodulation system using dedicated light wavelengths rather than exfoliation or suction.

A combination treatment therefore allows us to address surface cleansing and hydration with HydraFacial while using LED as a separate light-based modality.

Importantly, we would not claim that HydraFacial + Healite II has been proven to produce a special synergistic result. There is a much larger literature around photobiomodulation generally than there is research specifically studying this exact HydraFacial-Healite combination.

Neither is automatically better.

A HydraFacial combines superficial exfoliation with cleansing, suction-based extraction and hydration.

A chemical peel relies primarily on a controlled chemical exfoliation response, with the depth and effect depending on the acids, formulation and treatment protocol being used.

We may favour HydraFacial when congestion, blackheads, hydration and minimal recovery are priorities.

We may favour a chemical peel when we deliberately want a more targeted or stronger exfoliative response for concerns such as congestion, pigmentation or surface texture.

The decision should be based on the skin—not on which treatment is more popular.

Traditional microdermabrasion relies primarily on mechanical exfoliation, typically using crystals or a diamond-tip handpiece to remove superficial dead skin cells.

HydraFacial also exfoliates the surface but combines exfoliation with fluid delivery, suction-based extraction and hydration during the same treatment.

That makes HydraFacial particularly useful when the goal isn’t just exfoliation, but also addressing superficial congestion and dehydration.

Microdermabrasion is still a legitimate skin-resurfacing technique; it is simply a different mechanism. Histologic studies have documented epidermal changes following microdermabrasion as well.

They are different technologies.

HydraFacial primarily uses fluid delivery, specialized treatment tips and suction to combine exfoliation, extraction and hydration.

OxyGeneo uses surface exfoliation together with a carbon-dioxide reaction designed to produce a physiological oxygenation response. The newer GeneoX platform may also incorporate additional technologies such as ultrasound, TriPollar radiofrequency and electrical skin activation depending on the treatment performed.

For someone whose priorities are congestion, blackheads, extraction and hydration, HydraFacial may make more sense. Other Geneo protocols may be selected when the treatment goals and technologies being used are different.

Not necessarily—they use different methods to accomplish similar surface-level goals.

HydraFacial uses fluid-based Vortex-Fusion technology with specialized tips, controlled suction and treatment solutions to cleanse, exfoliate, extract and hydrate the skin.

DiamondGlow uses a diamond-tip handpiece to mechanically exfoliate the skin while suction removes surface debris and SkinMedica Pro-Infusion Serums are delivered during treatment.

The better choice depends on your skin and what you want from the treatment. We wouldn’t consider either technology universally superior simply because it uses a different method of exfoliation.

One HydraFacial. Customized to your skin.

Our HydraFacial is $250 and includes the core cleansing, exfoliation, extraction and hydration treatment. Additional treatment steps can be added when appropriate, including lymphatic drainage (+$50) and the Wet Diamond Tip (+$25).

You don’t need to build the most expensive treatment—we can help determine which additions, if any, actually make sense for your skin.
