Personalized Medical-Grade Skincare Near Ottawa

Skincare built around your skin — not a trend, product launch or one-size-fits-all routine.

Your regimen starts with an assessment of your skin, concerns, current products and long-term goals. From acne and melasma to pigmentation, redness and aging skin, we build a plan designed to support healthier, more predictable skin over time.

What Better Skin Can Look Like

The goal isn’t more skincare. It’s a better strategy.

By results, we mean:

  • Fewer breakouts and less congestion when acne and oil control are the priority.
  • More even-looking tone and pigmentation with a plan designed around the cause of the discolouration.
  • Skin that feels calmer, better hydrated and more resilient rather than constantly irritated or reactive.
  • Smoother texture and healthier-looking skin supported by ingredients chosen for a specific purpose.
  • Knowing exactly why each product is in your routine — instead of continually buying new products and hoping something works.

Your routine should make sense for your skin today — and evolve as your skin changes.

Our Skincare Philosophy Is Built Around ZO Skin Health

ZO Skin Health is the primary professional skincare system we use at Arnprior Med Spa. We chose to build much of our skincare approach around ZO because its philosophy closely aligns with ours: assess the skin, establish a strong foundation, use targeted actives with purpose, and adjust the regimen as the skin changes.

Rather than selecting products one at a time based on trends, we use ZO’s structured protocols alongside our own clinical assessment, VISIA imaging and follow-up to create a measurable, progressive skin-health plan.

ZO invests in proprietary formulation technologies, professional education and clinical testing across its product portfolio, including independent clinical studies on selected products and regimens.

Why Clients Choose Arnprior Med Spa for Personalized Skincare

A Routine With a Clear Purpose

Every product in your routine should have a reason for being there. We build skincare plans around concerns such as acne, pigmentation, redness, dehydration, texture and visible signs of aging — then adjust the plan as your skin changes.

Built for Your Skin — Not a Trend

We consider your skin concerns, barrier health, treatment history, current products, lifestyle and goals before recommending a regimen. The goal is not to sell you more products — it is to create a routine that makes sense for your skin and works alongside your long-term treatment plan.

Clinical Assessment First

Recommendations begin with an assessment of your skin rather than a pre-built product bundle. When appropriate, VISIA imaging can help us evaluate pigmentation, redness, texture and visible photodamage.

Skincare That Works With Your Treatments

Your home routine can be adapted around laser resurfacing, pigment treatments, acne care and other procedures so that skincare, preparation and recovery are part of one coordinated plan.

Frequently asked questions

“Medical-grade skincare” is an industry term used to describe professional skincare commonly recommended through medical and aesthetic practices, but it is not a separate regulatory category in Canada.

What matters more than the label is the formulation, active ingredients, supporting evidence, how the products are used and whether they are appropriate for your skin.

At Arnprior Med Spa, we use professional skincare as part of a structured skin-health plan rather than simply recommending products because they are expensive or available only through a clinic.

ZO Skin Health is not automatically better than every product sold at Sephora. The biggest difference is the way we use it.

Sephora carries many well-formulated products containing ingredients such as retinol, vitamin C, acids and pigment-supporting ingredients. The challenge for many clients is not finding an active ingredient — it is knowing which formulation to choose, what strength to use, what to combine it with and when to change the routine. Sephora itself sells a wide range of retinol, acne and hyperpigmentation products across many different brands.

ZO Skin Health is particularly useful in our clinic because it is built around coordinated skincare protocols rather than isolated hero products. ZO offers different retinol strengths, targeted pigment products, acne-focused programs, antioxidant products and complementary products intended to work together.

So the question we ask isn’t:

“Is ZO better than Sephora?”

It is:

“Which skincare strategy makes the most sense for your skin?”

The main advantage of buying skincare through a skin clinic is professional assessment and an actual treatment strategy.

At Sephora, you may have dozens of vitamin C serums, retinols, exfoliants and pigmentation products to choose from. That selection is useful, but it can also make it easy to build a routine containing several products that overlap, irritate the skin or simply do not address the primary concern. Sephora’s own Canadian site currently lists numerous products in each of these categories.

At Arnprior Med Spa, we start with your skin concern, current products, treatment history, tolerance and goals. Then we build a routine around what your skin actually needs.

And because we also perform laser resurfacing, pigment treatments, acne treatments and other corrective procedures, your home skincare can be coordinated with your in-clinic treatment plan rather than functioning as something completely separate.

ZO Skin Health is built around a system-based approach to skin health rather than relying on one individual serum or moisturizer to do everything.

The line includes structured programs for different skin concerns as well as different strengths and formulations that can be adjusted as the skin changes.

For example, ZO offers Retinol Skin Brightener in multiple strengths and uses encapsulated delivery designed to provide controlled retinol release. ZO also publishes clinical studies for several of its products rather than relying solely on ingredient-level claims.

That ability to build, progress and modify a regimen is one of the reasons it works particularly well with our assessment-first approach.

ZO can be worth the investment when the products are being selected for a clear purpose and you are actually going to use them consistently.

Expensive skincare is not automatically better skincare. Sephora, for example, currently sells vitamin C and retinol products ranging from relatively inexpensive formulas to products costing several hundred dollars.

Price alone tells us very little about whether a product belongs on your face.

Our goal is therefore not to build the most expensive routine. It is to build the smallest effective routine that addresses your priorities and then add or modify products only when there is a reason to do so.

No. More products do not automatically produce better skin.

Some clients benefit from a structured multi-product ZO program, while others may need only a few strategically chosen products.

Your routine may change depending on whether we are treating acne, pigmentation, melasma, texture, dehydration, visible aging or preparing for a procedure.

The goal is not to make your bathroom counter look impressive.

Every product should earn its place in your routine.

There isn’t one universal starter regimen because the right starting point depends on your skin.

Someone with oily, congested skin may need a very different cleansing and exfoliation strategy from someone with sensitive, dehydrated skin or someone whose primary concern is pigmentation.

ZO itself separates products and programs according to skin needs. Its Complexion Clearing Program, for example, is specifically structured for oily and blemish-prone skin, while its broader Getting Skin Ready protocols vary according to skin type.

Rather than starting everyone on the same kit, we determine what your skin actually needs first.

ZO has several products and protocols designed for oily, congested and blemish-prone skin, but acne treatment should still be individualized.

ZO’s Complexion Clearing Program is designed to reduce excess surface oil, exfoliate skin cells and help keep pores clear. Its Exfoliating Cleanser also contains salicylic acid and is formulated for oily and blemish-prone skin.

However, acne isn’t one single problem. Active breakouts, blackheads, post-acne redness, pigmentation and acne scarring may all require different strategies.

At Arnprior Med Spa, acne is assessed first so the plan can evolve from controlling active breakouts to addressing what the acne leaves behind. Our acne program also uses standardized photography and VISIA analysis to help monitor change over time.

ZO offers several products designed to improve the appearance of uneven pigmentation, but melasma requires a broader strategy than simply choosing a brightening serum.

Products such as Retinol Skin Brightener and Brightalive are specifically formulated around uneven tone and discoloration. ZO publishes clinical data for both products, including physician-led or independent studies.

Melasma, however, behaves differently from an ordinary sun spot. In our clinic, skincare, photoprotection and pigment control are considered before deciding whether procedures such as laser belong in the treatment plan.

The advantage of ZO retinol is not simply that the word “ZO” is on the tube. It is the ability to select different strengths and use them within a structured regimen.

ZO’s Retinol Skin Brightener is available in different concentrations, including 0.25%, 0.5% and 1%, allowing treatment intensity to be progressed according to tolerance and goals. The formulations use encapsulated retinol intended for controlled release.

Sephora also carries legitimate retinol and retinal products from many brands and at many concentrations.

What matters is not simply which store sold the retinol. It is whether the particular formulation, concentration, frequency and surrounding routine make sense for your skin.

Dryness, flaking and irritation can occur when the skin is adapting to retinol, particularly when starting a stronger formulation or increasing frequency.

ZO specifically advises gradually introducing its higher-potency retinol formulations rather than immediately using them every day.

Peeling itself is not the goal and is not proof that a product is working. If the reaction is excessive, uncomfortable or persistent, the regimen should be reassessed.

This is one reason we prefer to give clients clear instructions on how often to start, when to increase frequency and what to change if the skin becomes too reactive.

Vitamin C can be a useful antioxidant and pigmentation-supporting ingredient, but not everyone needs the same vitamin C formulation.

ZO’s 10% Vitamin C Self-Activating contains both ascorbic acid and tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate and is positioned for discoloration, antioxidant support and visible signs of aging.

There are also many vitamin C formulations available through retailers such as Sephora, ranging substantially in concentration, derivatives, formulation and price.

Rather than asking whether everyone needs vitamin C, we ask whether it adds something useful to your routine.

Skincare can improve the appearance of pigmentation, texture, fine lines and other visible signs of photodamage, but it has limits.

Consistent use of retinoids, antioxidants, pigment-supporting products and sunscreen can make a meaningful difference in skin quality.

But skincare cannot reproduce every effect of fractional laser resurfacing, ablative resurfacing or other procedures.

That is why our philosophy is not skincare instead of treatments or treatments instead of skincare.

We use them for different jobs.

No. Skincare and laser resurfacing create different effects within the skin.

A good home regimen can support pigmentation control, cell turnover, hydration, barrier function and photoprotection.

Laser resurfacing can create controlled fractional or ablative tissue effects that topical skincare cannot reproduce.

For many clients, the strongest long-term strategy is therefore good daily skincare combined with appropriately selected procedures when the concern warrants them.

Skin preparation allows us to address factors such as pigmentation, sun exposure, hydration, barrier function and active skincare before performing a procedure.

Not every client requires exactly the same preparation, and stronger is not always better.

The regimen should depend on the skin type, concern and procedure being planned.

At Arnprior Med Spa, skincare and procedures are therefore planned together rather than treating the laser appointment as an isolated event.

Post-laser skincare should support recovery and protect the treated skin, and the exact routine depends on the procedure performed.

After some treatments, active ingredients may need to be temporarily reduced or stopped while the skin recovers. Sunscreen and appropriate aftercare become particularly important.

We give post-treatment instructions based on the actual procedure rather than telling every client to immediately return to their normal skincare routine.

Skincare should be evaluated over weeks and months, not days.

Some changes such as hydration may become noticeable relatively quickly. Changes involving pigmentation, texture, acne or visible aging generally require more time and consistent use.

We also don’t assume that a routine should remain unchanged indefinitely. If your skin isn’t moving in the direction we expected, the plan should be reassessed rather than simply buying another product.

Sensitive skin does not necessarily mean you cannot use active skincare, but it does mean the regimen needs to be selected and introduced carefully.

We look at what you are currently using, the condition of the skin barrier, previous reactions and the concern we are trying to address.

Sometimes the best first move is simplifying the routine rather than adding another active ingredient.

Because we don’t treat skincare as retail. We treat it as part of your treatment plan.

Arnprior Med Spa is a nurse-led advanced skin clinic. Stacey Foster, RN, is a ZO Skin Health Expert certified through ZO’s training program and has completed advanced education in the ZO Skin Health philosophy. The clinic also specializes in laser resurfacing, pigmentation, melasma, acne and acne scarring.

That means we can look beyond the question:

“Which moisturizer should I buy?”

and ask:

What is actually happening in your skin? What should skincare address? Does a procedure belong in the plan? What should happen first? And how should the routine change as the skin improves?

That integration of assessment + skincare + corrective treatments + follow-up is the reason to work with us.

Our difference is the way skincare is integrated into a larger skin-health strategy.

We are not built around one skincare brand, one facial or one laser. We assess the concern first and then determine which combination of home skincare and in-clinic treatment makes sense.

Because our clinical focus includes laser resurfacing, acne, acne scarring, pigmentation and melasma, skincare can be used to prepare for treatment, support recovery and maintain results rather than existing as a separate retail service.

You don’t need to arrive knowing which product to buy. You bring us the concern; we build the plan.

Not necessarily.

Bring your current products to your consultation — even the products you bought from Sephora, the drugstore, another clinic or online.

We would rather understand what you are already using than make you throw everything away unnecessarily.

We look for:

duplicate ingredients,
products that may be contributing to irritation,
gaps in the routine,
and products worth keeping.

The objective isn’t to replace every bottle with ZO. The objective is to make your routine make sense.

We chose ZO Skin Health because it gives us a structured system to work with. We continue to use it because we can follow the skin over time and see whether the plan is actually doing what we intended.
