REDNESS + VISIBLE VESSELS | ARNPRIOR + OTTAWA VALLEY

Facial Redness + Rosacea Treatment Near Ottawa

Persistent facial redness, visible capillaries and flushing can have different causes—and they should not automatically receive the same treatment.

We begin with a skin assessment and VISIA imaging, then use an individualized ZO Skin Health regimen to calm and strengthen the skin when needed. Once the skin is prepared, Derma V vascular laser and Healite II LED may be incorporated into your treatment plan.

Where redness comes from

What Causes Facial Redness?

Facial redness develops when blood vessels become more visible or when the skin is inflamed, reactive or unable to tolerate its environment effectively.

Common contributing factors include:

  • Rosacea
  • Visible facial capillaries
  • Repeated flushing
  • Sun exposure
  • Acne and post-inflammatory redness
  • An impaired skin barrier
  • Irritating or overly aggressive skincare
  • Heat, exercise and temperature changes
  • Hormonal or medical factors
  • Certain medications

Some redness is primarily vascular, while other redness is being driven by active inflammation or barrier disruption. Many clients have more than one contributing factor.

This is why we do not automatically treat every red complexion with a laser.

Not all redness is the same

Understanding the Different Types of Redness

Persistent Background Redness

Diffuse redness may be visible across the cheeks, nose, chin or central face. It may have a vascular component, but sensitivity, inflammation and possible rosacea symptoms should also be considered.

Visible Facial Vessels

Small red, purple or blue vessels may appear around the nose, cheeks or chin. These defined vessels can often be treated more precisely with vascular laser.

Facial Flushing

Flushing is redness that comes and goes. It may be triggered by temperature changes, exercise, stress, alcohol, spicy foods or skincare products. Laser may reduce persistent visible vessels, but it cannot prevent every flushing response.

Rosacea-Associated Redness

Rosacea is a chronic medical skin condition that may involve flushing, persistent redness, visible vessels, sensitivity and acne-like bumps. Laser may improve selected vascular features, but it does not cure rosacea or replace medical management.

Red Post-Acne Marks

Flat pink or red marks that remain after acne are known as post-inflammatory erythema. These are different from brown post-acne pigmentation and indented acne scars.

Reactive or Barrier-Impaired Skin

Skin that burns, stings, feels tight or reacts to multiple products may need to be calmed before any procedural treatment is considered.

Our approach

How We Approach Facial Redness and Rosacea

There is no single best treatment for facial redness because redness can develop for different reasons.

Someone with reactive, barrier-impaired skin requires a different approach from someone with persistent vascular redness, visible facial vessels or red post-acne marks.

At Arnprior Med Spa, our approach follows a clear sequence:

Assess the skin → Prepare and strengthen → Treat visible vessels → Support and reassess

We begin with a comprehensive consultation and VISIA Skin Analysis. When preparation is needed, we introduce an individualized ZO Skin Health regimen before progressing to Derma V vascular laser and Healite II LED.

Derma V Vascular Laser

For Visible Vessels + Persistent Vascular Redness

VISIA Skin Analysis + Clinical Assessment

For Identifying Redness, Pigment + Overlapping Concerns

Our redness pathway begins with a comprehensive skin consultation and VISIA Skin Analysis.

VISIA imaging helps us document visible and underlying features, establish a baseline and identify other concerns that may exist alongside redness, such as pigmentation, sun damage or uneven texture.

During your assessment, we consider:

  • whether the redness is persistent or comes and goes
  • the location and pattern of visible vessels
  • whether marks are red, brown or textural
  • signs of sensitivity or barrier disruption
  • skincare products and active ingredients currently being used
  • known flushing triggers
  • previous procedures and treatment responses
  • health history, medications and contraindications

VISIA supports our assessment and progress tracking, but it does not diagnose rosacea or another medical condition. If your symptoms require medical investigation, we will recommend that before cosmetic treatment.

ZO Skin Health Preparation

For Calming, Regulating + Strengthening the Skin

Before performing a laser procedure, we assess whether the skin is calm, supported and able to tolerate treatment appropriately.

When the skin is irritated, inflamed or highly reactive, we begin with an individualized ZO Skin Health regimen. The purpose is to remove unnecessary sources of irritation, strengthen barrier function and support healthier skin function before introducing laser energy.

Your preparation may include:

  • a suitable cleansing routine
  • barrier-supportive hydration
  • daily broad-spectrum sun protection
  • products selected to address oil, inflammation or sensitivity
  • gradual introduction of active ingredients when appropriate
  • removal of products that may be contributing to irritation
  • individualized instructions before treatment

Preparation is not identical for everyone. Reactive skin should not automatically be given an aggressive routine, and not every ZO product is appropriate for every red complexion.

The length of this phase depends on the condition of the skin and how it responds. Some clients need only minor changes, while others benefit from a longer period of preparation before laser treatment.

We do not rush inflamed or poorly prepared skin into a procedure.

Derma V Vascular Laser

For Visible Vessels + Persistent Vascular Redness

Once the skin is sufficiently calm and prepared, Derma V may be used to target the visible vascular component of redness.

Derma V combines two vascular wavelengths:

532 nm KTP is commonly considered for superficial redness and small visible facial vessels.

1064 nm Nd:YAG reaches deeper and may be selected for certain larger, darker or deeper vascular targets.

We particularly consider Derma V for:

  • small visible facial capillaries
  • vessels around the nose
  • selected persistent background redness
  • rosacea-associated visible vessels
  • flat red or pink post-acne marks
  • selected deeper blue or purple vessels
  • certain vascular lesions after appropriate assessment

The wavelength, spot size, pulse duration and other treatment parameters are selected according to the colour, size and depth of the vascular target, as well as skin type and individual risk.

Derma V may reduce visible vessels and vascular redness, but it does not cure rosacea, prevent every flushing response or treat redness caused entirely by active irritation.

Corrective and supportive

Why We Use Derma V and Healite II Together

Healite II LED

For Gentle Skin Support + Treatment Recovery

Healite II LED may be incorporated before or after selected vascular treatments as part of a broader redness plan.

Unlike vascular laser, LED does not target and close visible blood vessels. Its role is supportive rather than corrective.

We may incorporate Healite II to:

  • provide a gentle treatment option for reactive skin
  • support the skin during its preparation phase
  • complement an individualized skincare plan
  • support recovery following selected procedures
  • provide ongoing maintenance when stronger treatment is not appropriate

Healite II may be used alongside ZO Skin Health preparation and Derma V, but each treatment performs a different role.

Frequently Asked Questions About Facial Redness and Rosacea

Facial redness may be caused by visible blood vessels, rosacea, repeated flushing, acne-related inflammation, sun exposure, product irritation or a weakened skin barrier. Because these concerns can look similar but require different approaches, treatment should begin with an assessment of the redness pattern, associated symptoms and condition of the surrounding skin.

No. Rosacea is one possible cause of facial redness, but not every red complexion has rosacea.

Visible capillaries, post-acne redness, sensitivity, barrier disruption and irritation from skincare can also cause the skin to look red. Rosacea is a medical condition that should be diagnosed by an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

Rosacea can involve persistent central facial redness, repeated flushing, visible vessels, sensitivity and acne-like bumps. Some people may also experience eye or eyelid symptoms.

These features can overlap with other skin conditions. VISIA imaging and a cosmetic skin assessment can document what we see, but they do not replace a medical diagnosis.

No. Rosacea is a chronic condition, and vascular laser does not cure it.

Derma V may reduce selected visible vessels and persistent vascular redness associated with rosacea. Other symptoms may require appropriate skincare, trigger management or medical treatment.

Skin that is actively inflamed, irritated or highly reactive may not be ready for a procedure.

We first work to calm the skin, reduce avoidable irritation and support barrier function. This helps create better conditions for treatment tolerance and recovery. Preparation does not eliminate every risk or guarantee a particular result.

We begin with a comprehensive consultation, review of your health and skincare history, and examination of the colour and pattern of the redness.

VISIA Skin Analysis may be used to document visible redness, pigmentation, sun damage and other overlapping concerns. It also gives us a baseline for future comparison.

No. VISIA is an imaging and documentation tool; it does not diagnose rosacea or another medical condition.

If your redness, inflammation or associated symptoms require medical investigation, we may recommend assessment by a physician, nurse practitioner, dermatologist or eye-care professional before cosmetic treatment.

An individualized ZO Skin Health regimen allows us to address the condition of the skin before introducing a procedure.

Depending on the assessment, the plan may focus on appropriate cleansing, barrier support, sun protection and carefully selected active ingredients. Not every ZO product is appropriate for every red or sensitive complexion, so the regimen must be individualized.

The preparation period varies according to the level of inflammation, barrier function, current skincare routine, treatment history and planned procedure.

Some clients require only minor adjustments. Others may benefit from several weeks of consistent skincare before vascular laser treatment is considered.

Derma V is a vascular laser platform that provides 532 nm KTP and 1064 nm Nd wavelengths.

These wavelengths allow treatment to be selected according to the colour, size and depth of the vascular target. Derma V may be considered for visible facial vessels, selected persistent redness and certain red post-acne marks.

The 532 nm KTP wavelength is commonly selected for superficial red vessels and selected areas of facial redness.

The 1064 nm Nd wavelength penetrates more deeply and may be considered for certain larger, darker or deeper vessels.

The appropriate wavelength and treatment settings are selected after examining the vascular target and considering the client’s skin type and pigmentation risk.

Small visible vessels around the nose are commonly assessed for Derma V treatment.

Response depends on the vessel’s size, depth and location, as well as individual skin characteristics. Some vessels may improve following one session, while others require additional treatment.

Derma V may be considered for selected flat red or pink marks remaining after acne. These marks are commonly called post-inflammatory erythema and may have a vascular component.

Derma V does not correct brown post-acne pigmentation or indented acne scars because those concerns have different treatment targets.

Red or pink post-acne marks are generally associated with vascular or inflammatory changes.

Brown or grey marks involve excess pigment and are known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Indented or raised acne scars involve structural changes in the skin. A client may have more than one type, which is why correct classification should come before treatment.

IPL uses a broad range of filtered light, while Derma V delivers specific 532 nm and 1064 nm laser wavelengths.

Both technologies may be used for selected vascular concerns, but they deliver energy differently. The appropriate choice depends on the target, skin type and clinical assessment—not on one technology being universally best for everyone.

Vbeam is a pulsed-dye laser that commonly uses a 595 nm wavelength. Derma V combines 532 nm KTP and 1064 nm Ndwavelengths.

Both platforms may be used for vascular concerns, but their wavelengths and treatment characteristics differ. Device selection should be based on the individual vascular target rather than the device name alone.

Derma V and Healite II perform different roles.

Derma V is used to target selected visible vessels and vascular redness. Healite II provides gentle, supportive LED therapy that may be incorporated during skin preparation or following selected treatments.

Using both allows us to address the vascular target while also supporting the condition and recovery of the surrounding skin.

No. Healite II does not close or remove established facial vessels.

Visible capillaries require a vascular-specific assessment and may be treated with Derma V when appropriate. LED is used as a supportive modality rather than a replacement for vascular laser.

Not necessarily. Derma V may reduce persistent vessels that contribute to visible redness, but it cannot prevent every flushing response.

Heat, exercise, stress, alcohol, spicy foods, temperature changes and other individual triggers may still produce temporary flushing.

The number of treatments depends on whether we are addressing one defined vessel, multiple capillaries or broader vascular redness.

Some vessels may respond following one treatment, while diffuse or recurrent redness may require a series and future maintenance. We reassess the skin before recommending another session.

Some changes may be noticeable relatively soon, but treated vessels can take several weeks to gradually clear.

A vessel may temporarily darken or appear more noticeable before improving. The final response should be assessed after the skin has recovered.

Temporary redness, warmth, swelling, vessel darkening or bruising-like discolouration may occur.

The degree and duration of the response depend on the treatment area, vascular target, settings used and individual skin response. You will receive aftercare instructions specific to your treatment.

Clients may feel brief heat or a snapping sensation as the laser energy is delivered. Derma V incorporates cooling to support comfort and protect the skin’s surface.

Sensation varies according to the vessel, treatment area and settings selected.

No wavelength or laser setting is automatically appropriate for every complexion.

Skin type, melanin content, recent tanning, vessel depth and the risk of pigmentation changes must be considered. A consultation is required before determining whether treatment is appropriate.

Treatment may need to be postponed or avoided because of active infection, significant skin irritation, recent tanning, photosensitivity, certain medications, medical conditions or other contraindications.

Do not discontinue a prescribed medication without speaking with its prescriber. Your health history and treatment suitability will be reviewed during consultation.

Yes. A treated vessel may improve, but new redness or vessels can develop over time.

Rosacea, genetics, cumulative sun exposure, environmental factors and repeated flushing can all contribute. Appropriate skincare, sun protection and periodic maintenance may be recommended.

The cost depends on the treatment area, number and type of vessels, complexity of the concern and whether more than one session is recommended.

Small-area Derma V treatment: Starting at $200

Cheeks or nose: Starting at $300

Full-face vascular treatment: Starting at $350

Your recommended plan and estimated investment will be explained before you decide whether to proceed.

Arnprior Med Spa is located in Arnprior, Ontario and provides assessment-led treatment for visible facial vessels, persistent vascular redness and selected rosacea-associated concerns.

We welcome clients from Arnprior, Renfrew, Kanata, Carp, Stittsville, Ottawa, Pembroke, Petawawa and communities throughout the Ottawa Valley.

Begin with a skin consultation.

We will assess the type of redness, review your current skincare and determine whether your skin should be calmed and strengthened before treatment. Your plan may include VISIA Skin Analysis, an individualized ZO Skin Health regimen, Derma V vascular laser and Healite II LED.

You do not need to choose the device yourself.

Healite II provides non-thermal LED photobiomodulation. It may be incorporated to support reactive skin during preparation or recovery, including alongside an individualized ZO Skin Health regimen or following selected Derma V treatments.

Healite II does not close visible blood vessels, cure rosacea or replace medical treatment.

Medical assessment should be considered when redness appears suddenly, is painful or significantly inflamed, affects the eyes or eyelids, includes persistent bumps or pustules, or may be related to an undiagnosed skin or medical condition.

Cosmetic laser treatment should not delay appropriate medical care.
