The Ultimate Skin Guide for Your 60s and Beyond
In your 20s, you were outside with tanning oil, tin foil, and a full afternoon to kill. It was the vibe at the time. And it’s part of why your skin looks and feels the way it does now.
You didn’t know back then how bad the sun was for you. But you didn’t have access to the powerful treatments we carry today, either.
In this blog, we’ll walk you through what’s happening in your skin now and which treatments we recommend most often for our 60+ patients.

60+ year-old skin: what’s happening?
Most of our 60+ patients arrive with a handful of common concerns:
Common skin concerns after 60:
- Sagging or loose skin
- Jowling
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Deep facial folds and creases
- Sun spots and dark patches (called hyperpigmentation)
- Redness or broken capillaries
These concerns are all perfectly normal. But they don’t just come from age alone: they stem from structural changes happening within the skin.
Collagen Breakdown
Collagen is the protein that keeps your skin firm, elastic, and capable of repairing itself. As early as your 20s, your body begins making less of it. Over time, that collagen loss adds up.
By your 60s, collagen production has dropped sharply, which means your skin no longer has the structure or strength it used to. That leads to sagging, wrinkling, and brown marks or spots.
Sun damage also breaks down collagen, which is why long-term UV exposure is one of the biggest contributors to visible aging.
Fat Pad Shifting, Bone Loss, and Muscle Changes
Your facial structure isn’t just bone deep. It’s built on a combination of bone, muscle, and fat pads that work together to give your face its shape.
In your 60s, the fat pads shrink and descend, the bones lose density, and even the muscles that support the face begin to thin out. This causes the skin to sag, jowls to form, and deep folds (like nasolabial folds) to appear more prominent.
The best treatments for skin aging in your 60s
The goal isn’t to look younger. It’s to help your skin look its healthiest and most vibrant today, at this beautiful age.
Here are the treatments we usually recommend to get there:
Skin Resurfacing with CO2 Laser
CO2 laser resurfacing is the most aggressive in-office treatment we offer: and one of the most effective ways to rejuvenate aging skin.
It works by ablating damaged surface cells while delivering heat deeper into the skin, which stimulates fresh collagen and kickstarts skin regeneration. That means it targets both what you can see (texture, pigmentation, crepey skin) and what you can’t (thinning dermis, collagen depletion).

CO2 laser can dramatically improve:
- Deep lines and wrinkles
- Crepey skin texture
- Skin laxity and thinning
- Pigmentation and sun spots
- General dullness and roughness
It’s one of the few treatments that can dramatically improve the skin’s tone, texture, and firmness in just one session. The tradeoff? Downtime. Most patients experience 7–10 days of redness, peeling, and healing.
But the payoff is worth it. This is a cornerstone treatment for many of our 60+ patients who are ready to invest in visible, lasting results.
Textural Resurfacing Laser: a Gentler Option
If you’re new to laser treatments or prefer a gentler approach, our Textural Resurfacing Laser is a great starting point.
MOSAIC is a fractional laser that targets early signs of aging (like fine lines and brown spots) by heating the deeper layers of your skin. This stimulates collagen and resurfaces texture, but with less depth (and less downtime) than CO2.
While it won’t create the dramatic results of CO2, it’s ideal for patients who want a meaningful improvement without the recovery period.
A quick note:
For patients in their 60s or older, no-downtime treatments often aren’t enough on their own. Your skin has different needs than it did in your 30s or 40s, and it deserves a stronger approach. Resurfacing treatments like MOSAIC or CO2 are what actually move the needle.
Radiofrequency Skin Tightening with Genius RF Microneedling
If sagging and early jowling are your main concerns, Genius RF microneedling is often our first recommendation.
Insulated microneedles carry radiofrequency energy directly into the dermis, where it stimulates fibroblasts and triggers new collagen formation. That heat response tightens and firms the skin over time, creating a more lifted, refined appearance.
Genius RF microneedling is best for:
- Softening mild to moderate jowling
- Tightening loose skin under the chin
- Improving skin firmness and texture at the same time
It is comfortable, needs about one to three days of recovery, and it is worth setting realistic expectations.

RF microneedling will not reposition tissue the way a facelift can, but it can subtly improve skin firmness, texture, and early jowling with no downtime. It creates subtle, natural improvement, not dramatic reshaping. Think of it as refinement, rather than full correction.
When to Consider a Facelift
We love what non-surgical treatments can do, but sometimes, surgery really is the better option.
You might be a better candidate for a facelift if:
- You have prominent jowling that hangs below the jawline
- You notice deep skin folds that persist, even when your face is at rest
- You find that no topical or in-office treatment seems to make a dent in your concerns
- You’ve already tried skin tightening or resurfacing with little to no improvement
Facelifts reposition the underlying tissue, not just the skin. That’s why they create more dramatic and long-lasting results than non-surgical options, which primarily target just the skin. Facelifts are especially helpful when the volume loss and structural shifts are too advanced for lasers or tightening to address on their own.
That said, surgical results are even better when the skin is strong and healthy. Treatments like CO2 or radiofrequency microneedling can prep your skin before surgery and help maintain your results after.
At Arnprior Med Spa, we’ll be honest with you about what’s possible. If we think surgery will give you a better result than in-clinic treatments, we’ll tell you: and refer you to someone we trust.
Should I be using skincare and injectables?
Of course! But with realistic expectations.
Medical-grade skincare helps keep the skin strong, healthy, and more responsive to laser treatments. And injectables like HA filler or biostimulators can subtly restore volume and structure to areas like the cheeks, temples, and under-eyes.
However, if your main concerns are sagging skin and deep lines, you will most likely see the biggest difference with laser resurfacing and skin tightening treatments.
There’s more we can do than ever before
Lasers have changed the game for patients in their 60s. The right in-clinic treatments can dramatically improve the health and appearance of your skin without needing surgery.
With consistent treatments and the right plan in place, your skin can become stronger, smoother, and more resilient in your 60s and beyond.
